Adventures Cambodia is a place with a lot of opportunity and needs to be filled, like base host, logistics coordinator, and women’s ministry coordinator. Another need of the base is something that I am going to fill alongside my teammate Romany: Field mentor.  In a nutshell, I’ll be a teacher and mentor the the AIM short term teams to come through Cambodia.

One of the things that I am most excited about is that I’ll be able to use my two passions, which I was worried that I may never use again, in teaching and music. Everyone who knows me well knows that I can’t go much more than a week or so without playing music, and that I love teaching. I enjoy doing both separately, and I love doing them both together. Luckily, I’ll be able to do both in my role as field mentor.  I’ll lead worship, squad-wide or team-wide weekly church service or bible study, and lead debriefs on the spiritual and emotional health of the teams at the base. The leading church services and bible studies is actually really cool, because before I ever knew that this would be part of my roll, I attended a conference on biblical exposition in Wisconsin. (read a blog I wrote about it here). Coming out of it, I thought it was a really good tool for how I read the bible, but turns out, there was a more practical reason for it. God is good, and he knows what he’s doing.

I love working with the high school/college/young 20 somethings age group, and I cannot wait to jump in whole heartedly. But that just one part of what I’ll be doing. The other is maintenance at the AIM-run Guesthouse “Overflow,” keeping the pool filter and pump going, the generator running, bikes oiled and tires pumped up, and generally keeping the guesthouse running smoothly and looking nice from a physical standpoint.  Soon the lease will be up on the building, and instead of a guesthouse open to everyone, we’ll hopefully be running a team house for AIM short term teams coming through, and I’ll have the same role, although it will likely be in a smaller capacity.

I can’t wait to jump into this next chapter of life and see what God has lined up for me, my teammates at the base, and for all of Siem Reap and Cambodia.
